DARWIN — REGIONAL POWER OUTAGE BRIEF, OCTOBER 22, 2026. Darwin is a small Inyo County desert community, and its proximity to Searles Valley makes the morning utility report regional news. However, a notification for one account in Trona does not describe the condition of Darwin’s electric service.
Our network’s Searles Valley News original report documents a Southern California Edison customer notification describing an unexpected outage beginning at 6:43 a.m. Thursday, October 22, near Trona. SCE says crews have been investigating and working to restore service. A later customer update listed 10:00 a.m. as an estimated restoration time, not confirmation that electricity had returned.
October 22, about 2 p.m. update: One Trona-area resident reports that their electricity was still off at 2 p.m., after the earlier 10 a.m. and noon estimates. No updated utility-wide restoration time is confirmed. This does not establish a power outage in Darwin. Follow the original Searles Valley News article.
Is there an outage in Darwin?
None has been independently verified by this newsroom as connected to the Trona incident. Travelers and residents should not assume a ten o’clock restoration estimate from Trona applies to Darwin. Utility territories and circuits do not follow a circle drawn around the incident.
What local readers can do
In remote desert communities, keeping phones and battery lights charged is prudent. Do not approach electrical lines on the ground, even when a line appears inactive.
Check the SCE official outage status service where SCE is the relevant provider. It may take time for incidents to appear and estimates may change. In an emergency involving a fallen power line, remain clear and call 911; SCE also accepts reports at 1-800-611-1911.

Editorial note: This item is a neighboring-community update distributed by California58’s local newspaper network, not a separate report of power loss in Darwin. No service-address information from the private SCE notification is disclosed. Information is dated and is not a live outage status.
